The vineyards of the Abruzzo territory cover more than 37 thousand hectares.
Viticulture in Abruzzo has very ancient origins, but the first evidence goes back to the Etruscans, in the VII century BC, which spread the cultivation of the vine.
Abruzzo's Montepulciano is the undisputed protagonist: here it finds the ideal conditions to be able to express itself at the highest levels and is in fact the main vine of all the denominations of the region that provide red and rosé wines.
Trebbiano Abruzzese, Pecorino, Bombino Bianco, Tuscan Trebbiano, Manzoni Bianco, Malvasia di Candia, Passerina and Pignoletto are the most cultivated white grape varieties.
In the region there are also many native vines, such as chardonnay, Pinot Bianco and Pinot Grigio, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The ancient Masserie have been transformed into a modern farm, without ever denying the solid tradition. The vineyards of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo dominate with about 26 hectares and follow the Trebbiano with 10 hectares.
Tenuta Torretta produces fine Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo and Cerasuolo. The company is located in an area of Abruzzo particularly fertile and productive for viticulture. Modern winemaking techniques are combined with traditional systems to guarantee excellent products.
A family-run business, the first vineyards were planted in the 1930s. The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo was bottled the first time that now in 1970 then the other wines, the Spumante, the dessert wines. The property consists of 9 hectares and produces about 60 thousand bottles each year.
